Prospective Students and Postdocs

Modern biochemistry is an integrated science that requires us, on the one hand, to explore mechanisms in the context of increasingly complex macromolecular machines and cellular pathways and, on the other hand, to leverage the quantitative logic framework and high-resolution techniques from the physical and chemical disciplines. In the Shan lab, we are committed to training interdisciplinary scientists who can integrate these diverse approaches to address important problems in life science.

Highly motivated prospective postdocs are always encouraged to apply. We look for candidates with either a strongly quantitative biochemical and biophysical background, or those with expertise with molecular and cell biology. Prospective students should apply to one of the following graduate programs at Caltech: Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics, Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Biology and Biological Engineering.

We are currently looking for prospective postdocs with expertise in single molecule microscopy.
